The grounds of Cal Barbut have 120.000 m² (12 ha) and is fully available to our guests. On the grounds our guests can enjoy relaxing moments on the numerous sitting areas in sun or shade. Or go exploring the botany of the woods and grass fields.
Trails for walking
The area offers many trails for walking. Variations are many, both for shorter and longer walks. The trails are well marked with sign posts and markers. In Cal Barbut we help with inspiration to walks that fit ambition and motivation. Information and descriptions of routes are at free disposal for the guests. We can also help with maps of the area. Some of the walks are listed at the bottom of this page.
Water & swimming
Rock pools, natural water sources and lakes. All perfect as relief on warm summer days or just cooling warm feet after walking. Water sports such as water bikes and canoes can be rented at the river beds of LLobregat in the valley. Additionally many of the small town in the area has outdoor swimming pools.
Flora & fauna
Big majestic birds of prey, a splendor of flowers, colorful butterflies and many beautiful voices of all the birds
Search for fossils. The area is former seabed; hence the likelihood of finding petrified seashells and other interesting things is great.
Climbing the cliffs at Vallcebre (via Ferrata) or treetop circuits in Parc Aventura Pedraforca. There are also many challenging and picturesque rock climbing locations free to use and close by.
Trails for cycling
We are happy to help with information on routes and trails for MTB and for tour bikes. MBT can be rented and delivered to Cal Barbut. However, please note extreme height difference. Cycling is for the ambitious and experienced cyclist.

North to the village of Vallcebre: 12 km, 4 hours circular route
Cliff tops of Vallcebre: 17 km, 6 hours circular route
Fumanya – Coll de la Vaca – Figols: 15 km, 6 hours circular route
Climb La Gallina Pelada (the skinned chicken mountain) at 2317 m: 7 hours return
The valley and the mines in Sant Corneli: 12 km, 4 hours circular route
Peguera – Bonner – Feners, part of long distance trail ‘Cami dels Bons Homes‘: 10 hours circular route
Pedraforca twin peak mountain at 2491m. Climb from Saldes or Gósol : 7 hours return
Pedraforca circle 360° round the mountain from Gósol: 17 km, 6 hours return
Long distance routes
Cami dels Bons Homes
‘The route of the good men’, ‘Cami dels Bons Homes’, GR-107. A long distance route that can be done on foot, horseback or mountain bike. The route is 209 km from Berga to Montsegur. In the 13th and 14th century the Cathars escaped from France into the Catalan Pyrenees where they took refuge. The route follows the footsteps of the Cathars. Link with the GR 107 only 4 km up the valley from Cal Barbut.
Ruta de l’Ermita
‘Ruta de l’Ermitá‘. Walking or biking route with focus on nature, ancient churches and monasteries. 100 km circular route and can be joined at Guaridola de Berguedá or la Pobla de Lillet.
Cavalls del Vent
‘Cavalls del Vent‘, ‘Horses of the Wind’. Walking route through the national park of Cadí-Moixeró. 82 km circular route in 8 stages from mountain hut to mountatin hut. High difference is 5600m. This route can be joined from Saldes.The trek is also used as ‘Challenge’ or cometition either as running or on MTB. The cycling trek is 223 km and has height difference of 7315m.
La Ruta de Caracremada
‘La ruta de Caracremada‘ – Ramon Vila is ‘Caracremada’ (burnt face). He fought against Franco and is considered to be one of the last of the Catalan militant opposition. Circular walk, 5-6 days. The route can be joined 4 km from Cal Barbut (Peguera).
